Official Lake County Inmate Search
The Sheriff's Locate an Inmate page is the official entry point. It links the Corrections Records Search portal, which is the Sheriff's contracted inmate lookup. The application supports three search modes: by name, by booking number, or by booking date range. Search-result snippets and Sheriff guidance describe these modes as the standard workflow for locating a Lake County inmate currently in custody.
The Sheriff's broader Inmate Information hub also links bond posting, visitation, phone rules, mail rules, and reentry resources. The current Adult Corrections Facility opened March 10, 1989 and replaced a 20-year-old jail. The facility is American Correctional Association accredited through 2026, and the Sheriff's Office reports that ACA accreditation has been maintained since 2000.

The Inmate Information page is the second stop after the locator; it links bond posting at jail reception, the ConnectNetwork phone provider, the GettingOut visitation app, and the TextBehind digital mail system that went live May 27, 2025.

How to Use the Lake County Jail Roster
The application is straightforward, but small details matter for tracking the right person. Use full legal name as it appeared on the arrest. Try alternate spellings on common names. If you have only an approximate booking date, run a wider date range first, then narrow once you spot the right name. If you cannot locate someone you expect to be in custody, the Sheriff says to call 847-377-4107 to confirm whether the person is housed at Lake County or temporarily at McHenry County Jail.
- Open the official Locate an Inmate page on the Sheriff's site.
- Click the Corrections Records Search link to launch the lookup application.
- Choose the search mode: Name, Booking Number, or Booking Date Range.
- Enter the required fields, then click Search.
- Review the result. If the name appears, click for the inmate profile.
- If no record appears, call 847-377-4107 to confirm custody status.
What a Lake County Inmate Profile Shows
The inmate profile is the data summary the Sheriff returns once a person is located. Public profile fields draw from booking data; clinical and protective items are excluded from public view. | Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Legal name as recorded at booking; aliases may be listed. |
| Booking Number | Unique identifier set when the inmate was booked into the jail. |
| Booking Date and Time | When the person was admitted to Lake County custody. |
| Status | Currently in custody, released, or transferred. |
| Demographic Details | Age, sex, height, weight, race, and similar fields drawn from booking. |
| Current Charges | Offense or offenses on file for the current booking. |
| Bond | Bond amount or no-bond hold, where applicable. |
| Court Date | Next scheduled appearance. |
| Held For | Local Lake County hold, BOP contract hold, or other agency. |
Information not shown publicly includes medical and mental health data, suicide watch, protective custody, classification details, confidential informant and safety data, and juvenile or sealed records. Visit the Sheriff's office in person for any custody question that the online profile cannot answer.
Posting Bond for a Lake County Inmate
The Post Bond for an Inmate page says bond is accepted 24 hours a day at jail reception at 20 South County Street in Waukegan. The person posting bond must complete the Inmate Bond Identification Form. Accepted payment is cash or certified cashier's check only. Cashier's checks must be made payable to "Clerk of the Circuit Court." Personal checks, credit and debit cards, and traveler's checks are not accepted for bond payment.
The bond poster also signs page 2 of the 19th Judicial Circuit Bail Bond Form acknowledging that posted bond may be used for costs, attorney's fees, fines, or other court-authorized purposes. Special rules apply on bonds of $10,000 or more, or in cases involving controlled substances, racketeering, or money laundering. In those cases, the Social Security numbers of both the defendant and the bonder must be provided, a Source of Bond Information Form must be completed, and valid photo ID must be shown. Accepted ID includes state driver's license or ID, military ID, Mexican Matricula card, or passport with photo.

ConnectNetwork can also fund Trust Fund and Self-Release accounts. Options include online, mobile app, phone at 888-428-1845 for Trust and Self-Release, jail reception, and the CBCC lobby kiosk.
